There are a couple of areas. The first is no selling all talk of suspending elections, even in jest. No-selling in pro wrestling is when a wrestler deliberately ignores or downplays an opponent’s move, often to put a performer they don’t like in real life in their place. In this case you no-sell all the talk about there not being elections in 2026 or 2028, and you create a feeling of inevitability of an electoral reckoning. You and your social circle become outright dismissive of any and all thought of not being elections. You create the atmosphere where it is known that the elections will happen and any deviation will not be tolerated.
Next, it’s 2025 so now is when you start looking for the right candidates to back for Congress, people who actually intend to be members of Congress and not just to defer to the executive or the judiciary. Don’t wait till 2026 start yesterday.
Finally stay home don’t go to any protest. Don’t create crowds where agent provocateurs or hoodlums can take advantage. Instead, pour all that energy into calling your congressman repeatedly. Make them get sick of hearing you and your neighbors. Call them over and over again.
And also, go out of your way to focus on building solidarity and neighborliness in your local area. All politics is local, but we’re distracted by Washington. But we get a choice in that.
I would stay home and advise everyone you know to do the same. Organized protest has to police itself strictly. If that is not on the table, don’t do it. And if there are parallel riots happening elsewhere that are going to get the attention and tarnish your protests, you definitely stay home.
So, this leaves me wondering what leverage citizens have in dealing with our government in our current situation?
Great question and thanks for commenting.

Hmm. I was planning on going to a local “No Kings” event here in the midwest on June 14. Reconsidering.
